Veterinary Endoscopy – the care your pet deserves.

What is Veterinary Endoscopy?

Veterinary endoscopy refers to minimally invasive techniques of performing procedures through natural openings in the body or through one or more tiny incisions, rather than through large incisions. For this reason, endoscopy or minimally invasive surgery is sometimes referred to as keyhole surgery. The most common keyhole surgery performed in dogs and cats is the laparoscopic spay.

Veterinary endoscopy allows vets to offer their animal patients less pain, minimal recovery time and fewer complications. In many cases performing a procedure using endoscopic surgery allows for it to be done as an outpatient procedure, a less painful and traumatic alternative for both patient and pet owner.

As the benefits of endoscopy in animals were proven, its applications were expanded to include such things as the removal of foreign bodies (such as foxtails in the ears and nose or bones stuck in the esophagus), arthroscopic surgery, airway endoscopy, ear examination and flushing, gastrointestinal endoscopy, bladder stone removal, endoscopic artificial insemination and most recently laparoscopic spays and more advanced endoscopic surgery procedures, such as gastropexy and cholecystectomy in dogs.
